MAKE A DIFFERENCE: BLOOD EMERGENCY
Last month the American Red Cross declared a blood emergency due to a shortage of blood and palet donations. Due to the summer season and most Americans being on vacation there has been a shortage of drives and therefore donations. The blood emergency has extended into this month as donations continue to be given to hospitals faster than donations are being made. Blood does have an "expiration" date, so continuous donations are important throughout the year.
The Red Cross has put out an urgent call for more blood drives and donations to take place over the next few weeks. In order to encourage more donations, the Red Cross is giving out $5 Amazon Gift Cards to everyone who donates blood up until August 30th. There is especially a critical need for type O blood. By going to the Red Cross website you can type in your zip code to find a blood drive near you, or call to schedule an appointment at a center near you. A few minutes of your time can help save a life.
