MAKE A DIFFERENCE: DRESS TO IMPRESS
Bridesmaid or guest, you have to come dressed appropriately to a wedding. And if you are like me than you will be attending your fair share of weddings this wedding season. While it is an honor being asked to be a bridesmaid, it often means you are asked to wear and spend money on a dress that you can't wear again. Before you know it, you'll have a few dresses stored in the back of your closet because you can't fathom throwing away an item you spent so much money on. So what do you do?
You can give those dresses a second life and help make someone's day special. There are plenty of organizations around the country where you can donate your dress to girls/women that can't afford them. You remember the high school days where homecoming and prom were the most important days of your life? Many young girls also dream of attending these dances and having a beautiful dress is a major part of it. Their families not being able to afford a dress should not stop them from being able to attend and have a night full of memories. Below we've listed a few organizations where you can ship you dress to be donated.
Becca's closet is an organization that gives prom dresses (and other accessories) to high school girls that cannot afford them. They have different chapters throughout the United States and you can find a local chapter online to donate your dress to. Whats even more awesome is that girls in need can go directly on the website and request a dress as needed.
The Princess Project hits close to home because its a non-profit located right in our own city of San Diego. There are drop off locations throughout the entire county. Since they began in 2009, they have donated over 6000 prom dresses to girls for free! There are guidelines online for what they can accept. And even if you don't have a dress to donate you can get some friends together to host a dress drive.
Operation prom is another non-profit with chapters nationwide. Dresses in good condition can be donated to local chapters. In addition, operation prom allows you to make monetary donations which can help cover the pricey cost of prom tickets.
Give that beautiful dress in your closet the chance to be seen again and give someone else a chance to enjoy a night of fun and memories!
