MAKE A DIFFERENCE: CALIFORNIA WILDFIRES
I learned about the recent California Wildfires while I was in Spain. Pictures flooded my social media of the uncontrollable flames, and friends in Ventura County updated their facebooks to let others know they were safe but had to evacuate their homes. Reality set in for me when I returned home and landed at LAX and I saw how sky was filled with smoke. And now, the Camp Fire in Northern California has become the largest wildfire in the state’s history.
I cannot imagine losing my home and everything I own due to a wildfire. But a house is so much more than just the items stored inside of it. A house is a home—a place of comfort and a place filled with memories to last a lifetime. Loosing a house is devastating to say the least.
There are various ways all of us can help victims of these wildfires and the firefighters that are working non-stop to control these fires. Below are some ways you can give back to those that need it:
Donate to the Red Cross
Text the word REDCROSS to 90999 to make a $10 donation.
Donate to the LAFD Foundation
The Los Angeles Fire Department Foundation supports local firefighters by providing equipment, supplies, training, and outreach. You can support these firefighters by donating here.
Help out animal shelters/foster animal
If you live near an impacted area, animal shelters are in need of support. For example, the Humane Society of Ventura County needs donations. You can also offer to foster pets that have been displaced due to the fires.
United Way of Northern California
This organization is offering emergency funds to those who have lost their home and need cash to buy basic necessities. Text ‘BUTTEFIRE’ to 91999 to make a donation.
I hope that you consider taking some time to help the victims of these devastating wildfires!
