BB HANDS ON: HUMANA
I am back in the states after a beautiful and relaxing week in Spain. It was my first time in Spain (but not in Europe) and my soul always feels happy after having traveled to a foreign place. I split my time between Madrid and Barcelona—Spain’s two largest cities. Both have a lot to offer in terms of attractions, sightseeing, food, and of course shopping. And while there were many chain stores that I recognized (Zara, H&M, MAC) there were a lot of unique ones too. In fact there was one store that kept seeing over and over again called Humana. I knew immediately from their storefront that I had to check out this store.
Humana is an organization that promotes environmental protection through textile reuse. With over 5,000 donation bins located in Spain, Humana collects over 18,000 tons of clothing/shoes on an annual basis. These clothing donations are sold at Humana stores located throughout the country, giving clothing a second life instead of textiles going into landfills. Whats even cooler is that the money generated from the sales at Humana stores goes toward funding dozens of social projects around the world. For example, in Angola they have a project to distribute bed nets to protect against Malaria and in Ecuador there is a project that assists farmers with development and food security.
I knew I had to make a purchase and help contribute so I ended up picking up a cozy tri-colored sweater to bring back home with me. The sweater was in perfect condition and was less than $12 USD (after the conversion from euros). Check out the sweater in the photo above. I’ve been needing more sweaters since the weather is finally cooling down in San Diego in the mornings, but I haven’t been wanting to spend unnecessary money with the holidays coming up. What a steal! But more than anything, I was super excited to help make a small contribution to a cleaner environment and help fund some of the projects through Humana! Its amazing that there is such a large company making a huge impact around the world and it feels good to help play my part. If you are visiting Spain, Portugal, or Italy I highly recommend checking out a Humana store!
