MAKE A DIFFERENCE: NO TRICKS, ALL TREATS
Halloween has always been a fun holiday for me. Even though I am in the last year of my twenties I still enjoy decorating pumpkins and watching someone of my favorite childhood movies (Hocus Locus of course). And I still like to dress up and think of clever costume ideas. As a child I remember chanting trick or treat as I stopped at every house in my neighborhood to collect candy. It was always amusing going home at the end of the night to see how much candy I had accumulated and what different kinds. I’ve always loved chocolate, so I would trade my sister for hers until I got a better collection of what I wanted. It was such a treat coming home after school every day and being allowed to have a piece of candy or two.
But who says that treats have to be only for the kids? Adults can be treated this halloween season too. There are some simple and easy ways you can bless someone that don’t involve much money, but are still just as fun. If you want to get into the halloween spirit of “treating” someone, check out some of my fun ideas below.
Cash in Redbox DVD
Some nights Netflix just isn’t cutting it with the movies they have available, and I don’t wish to change out of my comfy sweatpants so I can see a movie in theaters. Thats when a DVD from Redbox comes in handy. I’ll rent a DVD from a Redbox kiosk so that I can enjoy watching a movie from the comforts of my home. A Redbox DVD is also a great way to surprise a stranger. Even though the DVD case is very slim, its still enough space for you to leave a $5.00 bill (or whatever amount you choose) inside. It’s always fun finding money, so imagine a strangers surprise when they find a little cash along with their DVD. They can use the cash to buy popcorn and candy to go with their movie. A small act of kindness that will really bring a smile to someone’s face.
Giftcard in a Book
I’m a bookworm and going to Barnes & Noble feels almost like Disneyland to me. Theres nothing like holding an actual book and creasing the pages. And I’m a sucker for pretty covers as much as I am for a good quality read. I know there are plenty of people that still prefer a physical book over downloading one onto a tablet. Another great way to treat someone this halloween, is to leave a gift card in a book. Again the amount doesn’t have to be a lot. But anyone will appreciate a $5.00 gift card to Target or Starbucks. Hint: Because there can be soooo many books at B&N, it would be a good idea to leave the gift card in a book within the bestseller section where the book is most likely to be picked-up soon so that someone can it enjoy the treat inside.
Even if you are against dressing-up for halloween or can’t watch scary movies, theres no reason you can’t get into celebrating this holiday. It doesn’t have to be tricks, when you can give all the treats!
