FRIDAY FAVES: RICE LOVE
“If you can’t feed one hundred people, then just feed one.”-Mother Teresa
I’m still thinking about World Food Day and the #zerohunger campaign that I blogged about earlier this week. Even though I donate to non-profits and volunteer with a local food bank, I wanted to see if there was more I could do to bring food to people that need it. It didn’t take me long before I came across the company Rice Love and fell in love with their concept.
Rice Love is a social enterprise that sells products to raise money to feed families. Most of their items come in the form of backpacks/bags (but theres other items too!) and with each purchase they donate rice to families in need in India. Each purchase constitutes a 1 kilogram rice donation to a family. Rice is such an important staple in Asian countries providing essential daily calories. Lifting the burden of food helps families send their children to school and get their families out of poverty.
Of course I had to participate and make a purchase from Rice Love. I decided on their Rice Bowl Pin. The pin is just the cutest little thing and was only $12. But whats even better is this pin provided 12 bowls of rice to a family, which usually lasts a family of four for 3 days. How amazing is that? I helped feed a family in India for only $12!
Rice Loves also does their part to show you that your money is actually helping a family. Each purchase comes with a unique code so that you can go online and see a photo of the family you helped feed. Let me tell you how touching it was to see a photo of the people I helped feed and their note which included a prayer for me. Oh man, the tears were definitely flowing after that.
If you want to help take another step towards ending the global hunger crisis and want to do so in a way that feels more personal, please make a purchase from Rice Love !
